Great news! The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced no general price increases for letters and flats in 2016. As a matter of fact, it is possible we will see a decrease in postage rates.

As previously mentioned by the USPS, the current rates in place include a 4.3 percent “temporary” exigent increase, which is only in effect until the organization makes a certain amount of money back that was lost during the recession. It’s estimated that they would reach this dollar amount around April 2016.

However, for budgeting purposes we recommend utilizing the current postage rates because the USPS has previously appealed the amount they should be allowed to earn back before the exigent increase falls off, and the decrease has not officially been announced.

So there are no surprises, it is important to note that there will be an increase of on average 9.5 percent on shipping services in January.
